Visa compliance

Your Student visa has strict conditions. Breaking them — even unknowingly — can result in your visa being cancelled and being required to leave the UK. Read these rules carefully.

⚠️ Work hours limit

You can work a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time. During official university holidays (summer, Christmas, Easter) you can work full time. This includes all paid work combined — do not go over 20 hours even across multiple jobs.

⚠️ Attend your course

Your university must report to the Home Office if you stop attending. Missing too many classes can trigger a sponsor licence check. If you are struggling with attendance, speak to your university welfare team before it becomes a problem.

⚠️ Do not switch courses without permission

Changing to a different course or institution without updating your visa is a violation. You must apply for a new visa if you change university or move to a significantly different course.

⚠️ Keep your address up to date

You must keep your university informed of your current UK address at all times. If you move, update your address in your student portal within 10 days.

What you CAN do

Work up to 20 hours/week during term time. Work full time in official holidays. Do voluntary work (unpaid). Travel within the UK freely. Travel outside the UK — but make sure your visa is still valid when you return.

💡 If in doubt, ask

Your university international student office exists specifically to help with visa questions. Contact them before doing anything you are unsure about — do not guess.
